PRAYER TIME METHOD
JAKIM (Malaysia)
What is the JAKIM (Malaysia) method?
JAKIM (Malaysia) is the calculation used by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia). Fajr: sun 18° below the horizon (as Alif computes it; see below). Isha: sun 18° below the horizon.
The rules
| Set by | Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia) |
|---|---|
| Fajr | Sun 18° below the horizon (as Alif computes it; see below) |
| Isha | Sun 18° below the horizon |
| Asr | First shadow length |
| Alif uses it by default in | Malaysia |
Details
JAKIM publishes official timetables per zone on e-solat.gov.my, rounded up to the minute. Many apps still list JAKIM with a 20° Fajr angle. On 20 October 2026 a 20° Fajr was about 9 minutes earlier than JAKIM's own Kuala Lumpur (WLY01) table, while 18° matched it within 2 minutes, so Alif uses 18°.
