Diyanet (Türkiye)
What is the Diyanet (Türkiye) method?
Diyanet (Türkiye) is the calculation used by the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Türkiye (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı). Fajr: sun 18° below the horizon (imsak). Isha: sun 17° below the horizon.
The rules
| Set by | Presidency of Religious Affairs of Türkiye (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı) |
|---|---|
| Fajr | Sun 18° below the horizon (imsak) |
| Isha | Sun 17° below the horizon |
| Asr | First shadow length (asr-ı evvel) |
| Alif uses it by default in | Türkiye, Northern Cyprus |
Details
Fixed safety margins (temkin): sunrise 7 minutes earlier, Maghrib 7 minutes after sunset, Dhuhr 5 minutes after the sun's highest point, Asr 4 minutes later; none at imsak and Isha. In use since 1983, after a 1982 decision of the High Board of Religious Affairs.
Diyanet's timetable pages do not print the twilight angles. With 18° and 17° plus the margins above, Alif reproduces Diyanet's İstanbul table within 2 minutes.
