Privacy policy
In short
- Alif has no account. You do not give us your name or email.
- Your location is used on your device to work out prayer times and the Qibla direction. We do not receive it.
- No ads. No tracking across other apps and websites. No advertising identifier.
- Purchases are handled by Apple and our purchase provider, RevenueCat.
- We measure how features are used with anonymous product analytics (details below). The events carry no location and none of your notes.
Who we are
Alif is developed and published by Ferhat Taşlı (“we”). Privacy questions: privacy@alifprayer.com. General help: support page.
What stays on your device
These are processed and stored on your device only. We have no server that receives them:
- Location. With your permission, Alif reads your location to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. The calculation happens on your device. You can also choose a city by hand.
- Your own data. Prayer log, tasbih counts, bookmarks, notes you write in Alif Yolu, reading plan progress, reminders and settings.
- Notifications. Prayer and reminder notifications are scheduled locally by your device. We do not run a push notification server.
- Widgets. The data shown in widgets is shared between the app and its widgets on your device.
What leaves your device
Purchases (Apple and RevenueCat)
Payments are made through Apple; we never see your card or Apple ID details. To unlock Alif Pro we use RevenueCat, which receives a random app user ID, your purchase and subscription status, and basic device and storefront information (including your IP address, as with any network request). We use this only to know whether Alif Pro is active.
Product analytics (Mixpanel)
We use Mixpanel to see which parts of Alif are used, for example that a screen was opened, a day of Alif Yolu was completed or the purchase screen was viewed. Events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device, not to the advertising identifier. Events do not contain your location, your name or email, the notes you write or text you type. Like any online service, the provider receives your IP address with the request.
Content downloads (alifprayer.com)
The daily Alif Yolu content is downloaded as plain files from our content site, alifprayer.com, which is served through Cloudflare. The request shows the language and date of the file and your IP address to our host and to Cloudflare. We do not use these requests to identify you. The Qur'an text itself is built into the app and works offline.
Apple services
Searching for a mosque or a city uses Apple's map services, so the search term and the area you search in are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
What we do not do
- We do not show ads and we do not use advertising SDKs.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps and websites, and we do not ask for tracking permission.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not issue religious rulings. Alif shows texts with their sources.
Keeping and deleting data
Data kept on your device is removed when you delete the app. Data held by Apple, RevenueCat, Mixpanel and Cloudflare follows their own policies, linked above. If you want to ask about data connected to you, write to privacy@alifprayer.com and tell us what you would like to know.
Children
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, or the KVKK in Türkiye), you may have the right to ask about, access, correct or delete personal data, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because Alif has no accounts, we usually cannot link data to a person unless you tell us your app user ID. Write to privacy@alifprayer.com and we will answer as the law requires.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date above. Material changes are also described in the app update notes.
